Chapter Eighteen

Conrad and Sally met as planned at the College of Psychic Studies on Saturday at 9.30 am. Coffee and biscuits were provided, and people introduced themselves, then the workshop leader, Thomas Mellor, outlined the plan for the day. First of all, they were put into a relaxed, meditative state then taken on an inner journey where they found themselves in a library. On a shelf was a book marked ‘My last life’; they were told to mentally take it off the shelf and in deep meditation, allow a series of memories of that life to unfold. After this, Thomas asked them to fill in a form about their inner experience, before they spoke to anyone as he did not want the conscious mind to interfere. There was then a break for everyone to have a warm drink and walk around for some exercise.

Next, they were told that they would experience a life of substance and were taken on an inner journey through a forest to experience that life. After they were brought out of meditation, there was another form to fill in. The next meditation session led to a life of achievement and when they returned to full consciousness, they completed the final form.

Rather than treat the whole thing as mysterious, Thomas believed that all the information that arose could be used as in any scientific enquiry. He also wanted to collate how many people felt they had been the same sex in each life, if they had changed, or if they were a different gender in their present life. He said that, at present, it would seem that there were more questions than answers as they were on an uncharted path, but he now allowed them to compare notes; some people had had lucid experiences, while others had had little in the way of visualisation: others had felt that they were making it up, still more were utterly amazed at what they had experienced. It was indeed inexplicable because some things had come up so spontaneously that there would not have been time to make them up or for them to be figments of the imagination.

Thomas made photo copies of their reports so that they could keep them and check with them over a period to see if what they had experienced was evidential. With the advent of the Internet, it was easy to research even the most outlandish matters so it would give them a grounding to continue to explore far memory.

Sally found a different personality in each life, one of which showed up as Hannah the girl from West Bridge Hall in the 17th century. Her life of substance was as a spoiled, wealthy man, while the life of achievement was that of a healer in the Far East many centuries ago.

Conrad’s experiences were not as clear-cut as Sally’s though he felt that he had experienced a life where he had been a Pasha and Imogen had been his favourite concubine. When she died young, he suffered tremendous grief.
